Prayer of a Native American
Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind, and
whose breath gives life to the world, hear me.
I am small and weak.
I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in the beauty of your Creation and make my
eyes ever behold the red sunsets.
Make my ears sharp to hear in the wind your voice.
Make my hands respect the things you have made.
Make me wise so that I may understand the things you
have taught your people.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in the mountains
and quiet forests.
I seek strength not to be greater than my brother, but
to fight my greatest enemy, myself.
Make me always ready to come to you with straight
eyes, clean hands and an open heart.
And when life fades, as the fading sunset, may my
spirit come to you without shame.
