Minnesota Trapline Products
Never forgot my roots. It was a Minnesota trapline of red fox that got me to San Diego, California in January of 1979. It's been upward bound ever since. I never forgot how to catch that right front foot on canines.
A client of mine, Tim Caven, is without question, the best lure maker in the world. Tim is the founder of Minnesota Trapline Products.
I used some of Tim's bait and call lure to bring this song dog in close to his demise. I have used Tim's lures since the mid-70's and will continue to use them for the rest of my natural life.
Boo-yeah Mr. Wily Coyote! A big stout male is # 1 in 2026.
It won't be my last TN coyote this winter!

INFLATION
When I moved to San Diego, California in January, 1979, it was starting.
Inflation.
I think later that year or the next, every third person in San Diego (except me) had a license to sell real estate!
Look at the devaluation of the United States currency since 1979.
Here is a chart showing the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) — the standard measure of the CPI in the U.S. — from January 1979 to the most recent available data (through November 2025, as of early 2026).

The Chandler Buck
If you have ever hunted whitetail deer in North America, I know you have not seen a deer of this caliber with your eyes. My friend, Collin Chandler, harvested this great buck yesterday morning, January 1, 2026 in South Georgia.
This recap is from our texts after he was made aware of the deer on a property he had permission to hunt, by photo's from a trail camera he had put up.
DP: I still get excited when big deer are involved. Today was special. The day after Christmas sitting in Cabo and lo and behold, I have the opportunity to see a trail cam photo of probably the biggest whitetail deer I have ever seen in my life! The deer is in the southern part of the United States. That state still has hunting season going wide open. This buck just showed up.
Let me tell you about the young man who sent the photo. He is relentless. He is just one hell of an outdoorsman. He just doesn't give up and this morning, well before light, the trail cam photo's were coming in of a deer so big I couldn't believe what I was looking at. No idea of where this deer grew up, where he lived to get that huge, why no one else had ever seen him and got the scuttle-butt going. Chasing a young doe (fawn of the year) he was on it!
When I am given permission to share the photo's I will. You will NOT be the first to say, "Oh shit, what a buck". The deer is being hunted by my friend tonight and no doubt all the days left in the season. This is a record book deer if not a state record deer. I can't believe the points and how big this animal is.
Stay tuned. Man, what a day to still get excited about such massive animals still running around America with all the trail cameras, guns, and deer hunters!
I hope my friend is able to put a tag on him. If ever a young man is deserving of an animal he is the guy to get it done.
CC: Let’s not share it just yet I hope I have one come Monday when the cold sets in that we can share no problem. What a deer. Thank you for the kind words Mr. Dean. If the Big Man up stairs wants it to happen it will be. Ive done something to my neck today and have been unable to hunt. Not possible to even draw a bow. I’ll keep you posted on this journey sir. This one is special
CC: 9:23 pm Hey Bubba, you still up?
DP: Yes, in Atlanta airport. Scared to death!
CC: Tomorrow be a better time to call?
DP: Give it to me. Hell no. NOW
DP: Remember every beat of every heart is by His grace. Kill that thing. Imagine how you can instill Christian principles into other hunters. Be what God wants you to be. Be a champion. Champions face battles. Prayer is how we speak to our Commander in Chief.
CC: That's the advice I was looking for. That's why I called. Thanks Mr. Dean. I'll keep you posted.
DP: No pics in a truck bed. Have some pics with orange on. Lots of teeth and eyes. More pics than you thougth possible. Get pics off to the side of the deer, just holding the horns. See, Georgia doesn't do that. Get some sky behind you. Have 2 Boone & Crocket scorers do it together, not 1.
CC: Deer showed up back up across the road at 7 this morning. I just got in the stand. He should still be in this block of timber.
DP: Official score isn't until drying period. Everyone but me is concerned about score. I am concerned about one thing. Respect for such magnificence.
DP: Sit man sit. Get on him. They are 95% nocturnal at his age. What a deer, keep me in the loop.
CC: I will Sir!
DP: He can't have much for teeth left. We will get teeth analyzed at two seperate places for age ID.
CC: Amen brother, Locking in, Phone going up. Talk at you soon.
DP: What happened?
CC: Hunted across the road, wrong spot, daylighted at 4:45, bad call
CC: Yesterday eveningDP: New day at daylight
CC: You're absolutely right. Trying to stay positive. Would have had a 20 yard shot had I hunted by bow spot.
DP: (after dark on New Years Eve) Make it an early night pal\
CC: Praying he doesn't get hit by a car tonight and fireworks don't spook him
DP: You will never remember NYE but forever remember the buck. Stay positive U got this.
CC: Thanks pal
DP: Huge buck. A world class buck Git him down!!!
CC: Yessir you got it buddy
NEW YEARS DAY. The cell phone rang at 7:53 am Central Time. The call lasted 4 minutes. Collin had put an arrow in the vitals of the beast and had him run by him, spraying blood like a fire hose out of the entrance wound. It was a call I won't forget. I almost cried I was so happy for him. He was going to make some more calls and give the deer plenty of time to bleed out before tracking him. He didn't hear the deer go down but assumed it would be an easy track due to the amount of blood on the ground.
DP: Savor every second of it buddy. Every sense.
CC: Yessir you got it
DP: The Chandler Buck. Simply unbelievable. Man I was praying for you this morning. Walking in. Alone, Stars. Getting in there. The whole country in a fog of booze and celebration and you, walking, only sound was footsteps in the dark. So much anticipation. Eyes on him?
CC: He's dead
JP: My son weightd in. He texted me. He was the President of the University of Georgia Bass Fishing team for 4 years. Collin and my son fished together and spent days and nights chasing big bass at SEC bass fishing tournaments. My son sent me the following text. "Glad you are feeling better, do not share pictures of Collins' deer publicly, to friends, or on social media, or anywhere unless he approves. And do not post that trail cam photo anywhere online. A lot of people would drive a lot of miles and break a lot of laws for a deer like that. When he told me i was one of two people to have that photo, this is his buck and his story and we need to respect keeping it private until he makes it public."
DP: You need some great camera work. This is forever. Your marketing clout just went up a million percent. Zero pics in the bed of a truck, LOL!
DP: 3:03 pm on 1/1/26 I have to hand it to you. That picture by the lake is globally good.
CC: Thanks, I was thinking that myself, LOL. I'll have to call and catch up with you and Jordan.
DP: No hurry, U got him. My payers answered. Bask in the accolades, U deserve them Those pics with no hands on the horns are the bomb, U did good.
DP: 6:40 p.m. From the time we talked this morning imagine how your day has changed your life. Lifetime buck in so many ways. Have you even had something to eat today? Dude, you could walk on water today.
CC: Brother, I just ate for the first time. I'll call you tomorrow, It hasn't hit me yet.
DP: Call tomorrow, Savor these moments. priceless
CC: I Will Do Sir. if it wasn't for you i wouldnt' have those pics that look like that and I'm not just saying that.
DP: You won't forget me. HaHa. Tell Jordan they are solely due to Mr. P
CC: Lol, I will make sure I do. I'm serious dude I looked up how to take pictures
DP: World class photo's. I gave you the foundation U went to work
CC: There's never been a deer in Seminole County to have a pic taken like that
DP: What a pic. Sky, water, magnificent antlers
CC: Man, I've got hundreds. There's some hammer pics. I haven't scratched the surface, you are more than welcome to share with whomever
DP: Can i send that pic now? To my friends? Dude, just dam proud.
CC: Yessir, whoever you'd like there's people out of state calling about that buck. I'm proud to know you and Jordan and to be able to share it with you guys. Means the world to me. Means the world
DP: Get some sleep. U deserve it. All good things. Hit the side of your bed tonight and thank the Creator. Bow down, he gave us all life. You can find a way to use this deer to bring Him to others. In your way, In your time.
CC: I will for sure my friend. I've said to HIM many thanks today. I'll spread the message.
DP: Keep a journal of today before you forget it in a fog of accolades. Priceless. Too easy to forget. you'll thank me in a decade.
CC: you know what i believe i will sir. Think I'll start keeping one daily.
DP: This buck in some ways will change your life. Believe it.
CC: We will talk tomorrow for sure
DP: Anytime before Sunday at dark is good. Savor. It's your time to shine
CC: I'll call you tomorrow for sure boss. Sunday is too long to wait!
