FACEBOOK logic.......

So it's a good thing when HFT firms are "UP" for 17 seconds but a bad thing when HFT firms go "DOWN" for 17 seconds?

The silence on this HFT quote jamming is deafening.   Not a regulator or exchange human is talking.

Funny   Money must be involved.

The Facebook beating(s) will continue until the greed is eradicated!

Corrupt whiners

So the Facebook public offering is overvalued when the underwriters "set" the price, the price drops, and all the corrupt entities who lined up for supposedly risk-free stock flipping act as if they were wronged?

IPO's at Chippewa Partners

Since the inception of the firm we have never put an order in for an IPO from an investment banking firm nor taken a "soft-dollar" freebie of any kind.   And millions in commissions later we're not starting now.    Our defintion of a new issue is rather funny.    IPO  =  It's Probably Overpriced.

"Dead Woman Laughing", Daphne Ashbrook

Although I didn't pull up a beer to read it, Daphne Ashbrook did a great job in the memoirs of life in front of a camera and her life trying to get in front of the camera.   For the millions of broken dreams, (California is littered with them), Daphne made it to the top.   If you know anyone remotely serious about living life as a Hollywood star and most importanlty, making it happen, this book would be a great read.    Here are some more comments on the book.   Unfortunately I wasn't able to buy it on Amazon.

Witty, self-effacing and painfully honest; the themes of life, death and laughter come together as Daphne Ashbrook recounts her many on-and off-screen scrapes with mortality.
Packed with rich anecdotes from her career in TV, stage and film, this refreshingly candid and conversational memoir spans a childhood in a theatrical family to pulling back the curtain of Hollywood, revealing the glamour and ridiculousness of a business mired in a struggle between art and profit.

Reflecting on her life and her career, Daphne discovers the surprising patterns and hilarious absurdities that accompany being a modern-day professional actor. The result is an amusing, informative and intimate memoir, enhanced with over 50 colour photos from Daphne’s personal and working lives. So pull up a barstool, grab a beer and lose yourself in Dead Woman Laughing."

Milton High School Athletics

Cliff Jones must be living large!   Wow.  What a year it has been for the athletes at Milton High School in Milton, Georgia.    Yesterday the school competed in not 1, not 2, but 3 state championship finals.

Yes, indeed.  You guessed right.   They did it.   The put their big girl pants on, they manned-up and won all three championships at the state level.   That makes what?   6 or 7 or 8 state champion athletic teams for the school this year?   Congratulations to every parent, to every kid, to every coach, to every trainer, to every chiropractor, to every sibling, to every water boy, to every water girl, to every bus driver, to all the teachers, and the hundreds of doctors, radiologists, orthopedics, on to the guy at the top.

A couple of months ago I was dropping my son off at the school for a weight lifting class at 6:15 am and the lights were on in the stadium.  I drove on over to see what was going on before the sun was close to coming up and there was a girls lacrosse practice going full tilt.

It is the long hours, the years of practice that make champions.   Milton practices.   Big time.  Winners all.  Congratulations to all.

If I could change one thing for Milton High School  (besides building a swimming pool for the school AND THE COMMUNITY TO USE  365) I would install an X-RAY machine in the school and have it open every Saturday and every day after school while all the practices are going on with a radiologist on call.    It's not that the orthopedics are getting rich on the kids it's just such a waste of time to wait a day or three to see a doctor and then if your insurance doesn't allow it, not be able to go directly to get an x-ray and the proper medical care immediately.

FACEBOOK Friday............

Forget today that the S&P 500 e-mini futures plunged to four-month lows at 1290, or Treasury yields crashed back to their record lows, or Gold and Silver surged or Oil dropped to almost a $90 handle.

Today was all about one thing - the disaster that's Facebook - between the late opening, overwhelmed systems, a dump to the syndicate bid and almost 600,000,000 shares traded with the syndicate soaking it all up at $38.00 early and into the close.

How could any exchange system stand up to the tens of billions of rapid-fire quotes and the quote manipulation brought about by the mainframes inside the dark pools.

They won't talk any truth on CNBC, it's all cheerleading by the media touts.

The market structure is broken.  Today was a gallant effort by the IT guys at Nasdaq.  They lost big.

The blame being tossed around should go straight to the SEC.  The market structure is broken.

Algo's trading against algo's in hundredths of pennies.    Wrong.   Small investors lose.

Harvard flake, Elizabeth Warren

How long is Harvard going to pay a salary to this lying, fraudulent professor?

What a joke.

40 years ago today...............

Mr. Mills a mere 40 years ago presented to me the 1972 South Dakota Outstanding Indian Athlete Award.    The older I get the more respect I have for Mr. Mills.   What a Lakota warrior he is.

Watch this video.   It will get you in the Olympic spirit for the London games.

Dimon grilling

Soon, maybe next week, for sure before June the camera's will be rolling as government interrogation of Jamie Dimon commences.   They will be scrambling for camera shots, Dimon will have his best blue tie on and no doubt be practicing some form of contrition before them.

Grab some popcorn and enjoy the show.  Watching Senators who are about to demonstrate to the world just how little they understand about modern IG9-tranche pair trades will be funny.   And so very sad.

Would you call it grandstanding as the system implodes?  Naw, that sounds far too Greekish.

Justice Obama-Holder style..........

See the irony.   They call in the FBI to investigate Jamie & Co. London hedging because a couple of billion, give or take another few billion was "lost".    Remember it was Jamie who got this guy elected with all of the Wall Street political "donations".  It looks good and sounds better.  November isn't far away.

Obama's pal John Corzine is in charge of the entire ship and is the guy who orders up a gazillion in sovereign debt from Europe and a billion and a half of CUSTOMERS MONEY goes WHOOSH into thin air and Corzine is walking around free.

Sad state of affairs.

Efficient Market? LMFAO

David Einhorn takes the podium at the Ira Sohn and bad mouths Martin Marietta Materials, MLM.

Stock getting hammered on his comments.   Where is the liquidity those HFT bozo's bring?

"Investment" = Government Spending

THE single biggest joke that has emanated from the Obama administration, bar none, well maybe the "shovel-ready job" bullshit was better but hey, you make the call, it's your tax dollars being pissed away.

Naked Short Selling exposed

Click on this link for the full article in Rolling Stone magazine.

Naked Short-Selling exposed

Most financial consultants, advisors, brokers, money managers and general financial ilk in the media have little to say about naked shorting.   They don't get it, don't care and are generally clueless.  Naked short selling in simple form is the counterfitting of shares.  It is criminal and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the laws.

Having been hit harder and faster and then when Grant took Richmond many years ago on the short side I have spent considerable time learning and understanding, (thank you Mark Mitchell), what the average guy was up against.

In fact, here is a picture of me at the first Tea Party rally afew years ago in Atlanta trying to get the point across.    It has taken some time but this article lays it out.   The SEC and regulators aren't in sight.  Never will be.   Bought and paid for.  Simple.

FAMU and complete ignorance...........

Seems to be a vast amount of stupidity coming across the airwaves this week and this story coming out of FAMU in Florida is near the top.   I am sorry for the family of the FAMU band member who was beaten to death last year on a bus.  They call it a hazing incident.  I call it a homicide.

Now the story gets comical.   It's now being reported that over 100 of the marching band members were NOT EVEN REGISTERED AS STUDENTS at FAMU!!!!

No wonder they canned the Band Director.   Not 5, not 25, not 50.   Over 100!

How could one measure that level of ignorance?

Too little for us, too much for them.........

Americans always want something for nothing, especially the liberals.   It is as if the government money comes from a printing press and not from the paychecks of taxpayers, (which is partly true these days).  The other day I was in a Lowes store in TN.  There was a FEMA  (government) employee handing out literature and she was trying to tell me all of her information was "free".

No doubt being a product of government schools she kept trying to persuade me to take a handful of whatever she had all because it was "free".   I kept telling her it wasn't free.  She didn't have a clue.

I finally boiled it down to my 2011 tax bill and told her directly what the "cost" was to me for her "free" literature.      She finally figured it out and shut up.  I think she met her first actual taxpayer that day.

1,111 and counting.........

It has been 1,111 days since the United States Senate passed a budget.

If Obama could pull himself away from the $$$$ on the campaign trail to get a budget passed he may have a chance to get himself re-elected.

He's toast in November.   American has had enough.  Ask around.  Ask anybody within earshot.

They will no doubt lie to you like Obama lies to us but they will vote against him.

They just don't get it..........WHALE GATE

The media pundits were having a field day with the Whale-gate nonsense at Sir Jamie's bank.

For the few bits I caught all weekend I didn't hear jack about the real story.   It seemed everybody was concerned with a bank taking a couple of billion dollar loss.   Geez, why shouldn't they lose a couple of billion here and there, after all, with Sir Jamie on the Fed Board and the ability to borrow unlimited funds at ZERO interest rates you would think they have an unlimited  number of printing presses that would only coin money.   The real story is that there is no regulation of the whales.  The real story is the lies coming from bank managment.  The real story is not a couple of billion in losses it is that the bank is taking, with speculative money, in excess of $100 billion dollar bets.

Isn't that just plain wrong?  I wish a whale would roll over all of these bankers and extinguish all of their crap that is bought and paid for by taxpayers.   Jamie, the pundits are having a field day.

You apparently have been out in left field.   Stay there please!  I'm tired of taxpayers ponying up for all the losses and the bonus's for bankers hitting 8 figures.  Anybody else sick of it too?

Dinner in Dallas

Was in Dallas on some personal business for a couple of days and had time to get a Friday night reservation at The French Room.   Am glad I did.  It was an exquisite evening and it has made my Top 5 list of favored dining establishments.  Truly memorable and thank you Carlos for your world-class service!

A non-lie from Barney Frank, finally

"J.P. Morgan Chase, entirely without any help from the government, has    lost, in this one set of transactions, five times the amount they claim financial regulation is costing them," said Rep. Barney Frank (D., Mass.), former chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and a co-sponsor of the Dodd-Frank financial-overhaul law of 2010.

Disaster at 1600 Pennsylvania

Let me see if I get this.  The country, my country, floundering around at near $15.7 TRILLION in debt and running up at the rate of $3 MILLION per minute and the Teleprompter-in-Chief wants to make the marriage of homosexuals an election topic worthy of the evening news?

Probably 20% unemployment,  student debt sky-rocketing at a bubble rate, health-care for the obese and those who won't take care of their own health and make it a matter of personal responsibility a looming financial disaster, a broken Social Security, a broken Medicare, inflation for the food and gasoline I consume every single day running at what rate?  Well it sure as hell isn't the rate your government is telling you it is.  I will tell you what it is.  It is a matter of America getting it right up the you-know-where.  Bend over America and take it like the good President wants you to.  Do as he says.  Let the government tell you what to do and how to live and what to believe marriage is.   You probably don't have enuf brains or guts to pull yourself up and think for yourself or do you?

We'll see in November.

My take on Social Security

If you think by giving politicians money to save for you later in your life, that you will have some semblance of "retirement", one might look no farther than the US debt.   At nearly $16 TRILLION we are all idiots to expect to get any or all of Social Security promised.

All bets are off..........

My "favorite" didn't win the rose garland on the finest day in a beautiful, May, Kentucky run but it got me to thinking about some odds.

I think the day will come when the government will no longer print the amount of debt our country owes.

When interest rates move up, the debt clock will be moving far faster than the current $3,000,000 per minute it is moving now.  Will it matter to you?  Does it matter to you now?

Do you even care?

Conservative Native American here

I had some great conservative teachers back in the day.  Native American conservative thinkers like Billy Mills, Bill Lawrence and Robert Yellow Tail gave me enough fodder in my early years and later  to last a lifetime.   You don't find many conservatives across Indian Country today.  I have met maybe a gaggle of Indian men and women who believe in the merits of conservative thought and living.

Across Indian Country the faces of life are easy to see.  The collisions are enormous.   The sovereign to sovereign status between Indian tribes and the US Government is the most valuable right Indian tribes hold today.  Though tribes can not print money and can not represent themselves to foreigners (the UN excluded) the tribes have the ability to make their own laws and to "help" their people.  But what does this word "sovereign" mean?  What does it mean to be a sovereign nation with the political bounds of American society?  It seems like the government speaks with a forked tongue because making human beings into wards of the government under a BIA trusteeship like on so many reservations today is a human rights violation of the worst kind.  On one hand you have the "our treaties, our sovereignty are paramount, you, Big Government  owe us so turn on the spigot of U.S. taxpayer funds and let us spend as we please" and on the other you have the "these casino's are in our best interests and we pay no tax so don't let anyone else build a casino".   Then there are the liberal Democrats (just about all Natives)  who believe that only a Democratic President and Congress can pull people out of the quagmire of reservation life and bring about change, whatever the hell change is on a reservation because on most if not the majority of reservations, change is about all you will find.

Billy Mills in the spring of 1972, a mere 40 years ago this month presented to me in Pierre, SD the 1972 Outstanding Indian Athlete Award.  His message was as clear that day as it is today.  Stressing personal responsibility and leading a drug-free lifestyle, his message was and is for Native youth to become warriors in their quest to better themselves.   Maybe Billy is the reason that to this day I have never even smoked a cigarette.

Bill Lawrence, beholden to no tribal council believed in the freedom of the press.  With a law degree in hand he took on the thieves across Minnesota with the printed word and was instrumental in helping law enforcement bring some justice to thugs like Chip Wadena who ripped millions from the coffers of my tribe.

Robert Yellow Tail, the man who at age 80 was hunting elk with me on the Crow reservation high in the Big Horn Mountains.  Robbie was a man among men and truly the first conservative thinker across Indian Country.   My Dad loved that guy and the compassion for his people he wore on his chest.

There are others out there today.  In the shadows, not wanting to upset the gravy train of life on reservations.   They are the ones that need to be the warriors and bring forth the message of the early icons of conservative thinking in Indian Country.   Join me.

Is this for target practice? If so who are they coming for?

Why did Department of Homeland Security order 450 million rounds of 40 caliber Hollow points?

 ........wait for it!

Because it's Standard Issue For DHS, Border Patrol, ICE and Countless others in the Glock .40 caliber.

Does that help any?

Feeling like selling your gold today?

Charlie Munger: "gold is a great thing to sew onto your garments if you're a Jewish family in Vienna in 1939 but civilized people don't buy gold"

...and yet:

David Einhorn: "I will keep a substantial long exposure to gold -- which serves as a Jelly Donut antidote for my portfolio. While I'd love for our leaders to adopt sensible policies that would reduce the tail risks so that I could sell our gold, one nice thing about gold is that it doesn't even have quarterly conference calls

Kyle Bass: "Buying Gold Is Just Buying A Put Against The Idiocy Of The Political Cycle. It's That Simple!"

and Howard Buffett: "I warn you that politicians of both parties will oppose the restoration of gold, although they may outwardly seemingly favor it. Also those elements here and abroad who are getting rich from the continued American inflation will oppose a return to sound money. There is no more important challenge facing us than the restoration of your freedom to secure gold in exchange for the fruits of your labors."

The uncivilized people have spoken, and the winner is...

Nobody does it better than Boortz

Over the weekend we learned that the Obama campaign has settled on a slogan for the 2012 campaign. It was one word …. Forward. Was it focus groups at work here? Did campaign officials discover that people like that word. Everyone wants to move forward, right? You don’t want to move backwards, do you? Well …. If you’re standing at the edge of a cliff, forward is the last direction you want to go. Financially … we’re at the edge of that cliff.
There’s another explanation for the word though. “Forward” has long been associated with the socialist and communist movement --- dating back to 1844. I absolutely and completely believe that Obama is a Marxist – so why not the name of a publication Marx and Engels published that year in Paris?
So yesterday I gave you a laundry list of different political philosophers, publications and propaganda that all used the phrase “forward” to embody and promote their socialist or communist causes. Considering the historical use of the word “forward,” it is no surprise that our Marxist in Chief would select this phrase as his new campaign slogan. But one of the many examples I referenced was a Wikipedia entry under “Forward” that Cristina found entitled “Forward (generic name of socialist publications).” Yesterday morning if you went to this link you found a long history of socialist and communist publications published in many languages, principally German, Russian and French, using that name as their title. That Wikipedia entry began with this:
The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other leftwing newspapers and publications, denoting an urge for progress.
By yesterday afternoon Obama sycophants and myrmidons were busy. They were demanding that Wikipedia remove that reference to the word “forward” being a generic name of socialist publications. Toward the middle of the afternoon if you clicked on that link it would say “This article is being considered for deletion in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policy.” By the end of the day, if you searched the word “Forward” in Wikipedia, the link to that entry had been removed from the website. Instead, now a section labeled “Publications” has appeared, listing some of the various examples. Here’s the original Wikipedia search. We’ve cached it. If you click on it here’s what you see:

Politics

This morning, here’s what you see:

Politics

The reference to “generic name of socialist publications” is gone. The little excerpt I included above … gone. You certainly don’t want that in the same listing as “Obama-Biden Campaign Slogan.” But wait! What about that reference to “Forward” being the slogan of the Obama campaign? Well click on it. Here’s what you’ll find:

Yes ma’am. Now the Obama supporters are trying to have the reference to their campaign moved away --- eliminated, in fact --- from any proximity to that reference to socialist publications.
Let’s watch this folks. Clearly Obama has an official or unofficial Wikipedia team ready to cleanse postings that might not play well with voters still on the edge. Control the message. Always control the message.
