Mom always knew about haters, she could spot them miles away.

The sad reality for all who aspire and achieve is that we deal with people threatened by the best of who we are and what we do.

A great friend is sensitive enough to be there for you when you're down and secure enough to celebrate when you're soaring.  Haters are never secure, happy people.  They show interest when you're down, but revel in setbacks with false concern.   They are remarkably silent when you have cause for celebration.

It's sad but true:  If you have happiness and fulfillment in relationships and your career and build a loving and caring family, not everyone will be happy for you.

Some will try to bring you down.

Haters hate what they do not have. 

They resent what they cannot themselves achieve.

On Mother's Day, give the haters a break.  

Mom believed in taking chances again and again with haters.

The primary appeal of fast-food burgers (even though the food is terrible for your health) is cheap and fast. However, 3.5 years of disastrous Bidenomics (enabled by Fed chair Powell) has sparked an inflation shitstorm that continues to spread through the economy like stage-four cancer, with low-consumers under severe pressure - this was even acknowledged by McDonald's in its latest earnings report.

Now, McDonald's could re-launch $5 combo meal deals, according to Bloomberg, citing a person familiar with the upcoming promotion. This could include a McChicken or a McDouble, fries, and a drink. 

The potential new offering comes as Goldman analysts warned that low-income consumers are in rough shape and pulling back spending amid mounting stagflation threats. 

"With >75% of the US consumer universe having reported Q1 results, we see indications that the US consumer is proving more stretched than previously anticipated as inflation combined with a bit of softening in the macro (lower payrolls & an uptick in unemployment in April), elevated gas prices & high interest rates continue to eat into spending power & consumer confidence," Goldman analysts headed by Bonnie Herzog wrote in a note to clients on Thursday.

Mistakes

I made mistakes during the 25 years of managing an investment management firm.   In retrospect, one of the biggest was time management.   I did NOT differentiate between large and small.   It didn't matter who paid us higher fees versus those who did not.   If you had a problem, no matter the size, it was a problem we would sort out.

One aspect of our success had nothing to do with money. The bottom line isn't measured in dollars and cents. We never forgot where we came from. Unlike most of the major firms we never told a prospective client of Chippewa Partners that we had a minimum account size.  And never would.

I was in Dahlonega, Georgia last weekend on my way to a wedding and I remember when the KKK had protests on the square there in 2017.   Come to think of it, what exactly is the difference between the KKK and these clowns protesting the execution of Israelis on October 7, 2023?

Since retiring in 2019 and giving up the day-to-day responsibility of managing OPM, (other people's money) I have concentrated solely on growing my own.  When COVID took over, I roared off to my ranch, sat tight, and traded rather aggressively.  Naturally in tax-qualified accounts, one needn't worry about short-term gains.  These are my 2021 IRA closed transactions while COVID was scaring the world.  As you can see, the returns were far more than the stated % return because the account was only a couple of million, not the total dollar amount traded of eight million which is shown.

As time has passed, I have taken more time to consider the state of the American financial system I have altered my approach to my own financial well-being.  Yes, I still sell call options on stocks.   Yes, I still own passive investments. Yes, I still own real estate and have added to it.  Yes, on occasion, when the charts tell me,  I trade rather aggressively.  Yes, I still own far more stocks than bonds.  Yes, I still own large and small companies.   

One thing is for sure boys and girls.  Deficits matter.  Debt matters and interest on debt matters.  We will have a financial crisis on our hands.   Bonds are rich. Stocks are rich.  The FED honcho's have raised rates by 500 basis points.  They are clueless;  that whole bunch should be shown the door which is my definition of transitory.  They can't knock inflation down and have run out of bullets.

I am not a pessimist. 

America is being governed poorly.  We are headed to a financial disaster.

Going into the weekend, sellers are in charge.  Short sellers emboldened!   

Economic news, political news, most news is pure shit these days.  Half of it unbelievable.  Probably most of it.  

My stock exposure is minimal.  No need to get in the way.  Hero's are in comic books, they don't sit at my trading desk.

Look around, boys and girls!  Gold prices trending, Biden is OTL,  missiles ready to launch, Musk catching hell from Africa's Zimbabwa, (that bastion of intellectual thought), cops (LEO's) getting shot left and right, bird flu, cow flu, 3.2 flu for spring breakers, FISA warrants trendy with the FBI,  covid masks fashionable, covid shots still selling, and lastly, this week I was able to see up close and personal what the business of healthcare is all about.  Ron White has more in him and all he has to do is watch the news!  America, 2024.  Fully engaged in their cell phones and social media nonsense!

My friend from Wisconsin sent me some nice photos that he took while we were bird-watching in Mexico a couple months ago.  For sure the only bright spots on my screen today.

This too shall pass.   Remember the purpose of markets is to separate the weak from the strong.

Dear XXXXXXXXXX,

So, you are in Los Angeles.  Big town.  California hype.  Lots of people.  I know you are enjoying your trip, keeping your eyes and ears open.  Watching, seeing.  You are also in my prayers.  

California is a tough place.   One of my favorite comments when I lived there was that everybody wants to be a star.  It is also an expensive state to live in.  Taxes are very high.  The sunshine in southern Cal is for sure, priceless.  I lived farther south than where you are now and it is one of the most beautiful beach cities on earth. LaJolla. 

I hope you get to meet some people out there that you can learn some things from.  I think you are perceptive about life and that will serve you well in the future.  Ask some of those people you are serving what they would have done differently in their lives.  Listen very carefully for the excuses.  You will hear them.  Listen carefully.

You see, the vast majority of people spend their lives in search of the "perfectly legitimate excuse". They see that as an acceptable replacement for success.  They are negative.  Maybe at your age, you already know some “negative” people.  Negative people look for someone or something to blame. Their life can be summarized as the "quest for the perfectly legitimate excuse". They never really grasp personal responsibility. The closest they come to feeling good is the placebo effect they get from hanging around like-minded people and participating in group gossip and complaining sessions.  Some people, and you probably know a couple already, have turned to using pot as part of their excuse in life.  You see, and this is very important to understand, to get what you've never had, you must do what you've never done.

Understanding this short quote can be the difference between winning or losing; between greatness or mediocrity. It captures the essence of discipline and discipline in life is what will make your life great.  Your Dad has a tremendous amount of discipline.  You know that and it has contributed to a large part of his great success.  If I can wish one thing for you to take away from this trip it is the importance of keeping your balance, keeping your focus and keeping your discipline to pursue your goals.  Your goals, not your mothers goals for you, not your fathers' goals for you. Your goals.  Your passions.    To do that, you will have to step out of your comfort zone.  When you do that, you experience great personal growth.

Always dream and believe that the best is yet to come.  I still do.

@70 Looking Back 5 years ago...........

This paragraph is still one of my favorites five years after I wrote it.  It doesn't seem to wear out!

"History doesn't have a reverse gear and there are no do-overs in parenting. We all have the same amount of time every single day to do our best. I always tried to accept the world for what it was and work hard to exploit the opportunities I was given. Sometimes they are hard to see. This past year I have shut off the TV and stayed away from the trance of the lies and bias of a defeated establishment. Hunting has shown me how important pacing one's life is and how important being able to haul ass is too. It's proven that you are only out of the game when you quit. There are a lot of high peaks and deep canyons in life, all possible to get over if you want to pay the price, your price, not mine. Those trips many times will take from you, to get you out of that comfort zone. Those ridges and that rough water will always be there. In my mind, I live deer every day all year long and have for years. What keeps me going is that I know my time is limited for quality hunting. The day will come when I won't get to hunt like I did. The legs won't allow it, so I feel like I have to give it everything I can, while I can. I still can. In closing let me tell you what I would like to see at 65 in 2019. To see less fraud and farce. To see fewer lies from society. To see less instant replay and less end-zone theatrics. To see less bullshit and more personal responsibility. Less government ie my tax dollars and more man up and do it. To see fewer tweets from our President on the stock market and Hillary Clinton brought to account. To see a far smaller balance sheet at our Central Bank and a Fed audit. To see a level playing field in our capital markets infrastructure. To see less war and less class warfare and to continue to hear less of a large sucking sound in D.C. In a perfect world, to have the Montana legislature shorten the mule deer season by a week to 10 days for more bucks, bigger bucks for the kids and hunters who hunt.

My take is fairly simple.  FWIW from where I sit.  Obesity is NOT a disease. It is a symptom. So are type 2 diabetes, cancer, heart disease, stroke, and chronic inflammation.

All are SYMPTOMS of severe metabolic dysfunction brought on by diet.

You can end them by changing your diet. Eliminate all added sugar, scale back your carbohydrate intake to a trickle, and eat lots of vegetables, fruits, meat, eggs, and dairy. You will be healthy within a year with almost no other effort.  Curb your booze while you are at it.

Now, there is one other catch; eat NOTHING processed. If it comes in a box, bag, bottle, or tub don't eat it. After two weeks you will feel better than you have in years.

Virtually EVERYTHING you have been told about diet in the last 50 years has not only been wrong, it has been a deliberate LIE. Solely to enrich a few powerful industrial lobbies and individuals. Never believe ANYTHING that the government or large industries tell you about diet. That includes dietitians and nutritionists.

I don't like to play the LOOK BACK game and say I told you so.   Doesn't make me look as smart as I am.  Better to just keep quiet.   Most people live in the rearview mirror and say "I shoulda done this" "I shoulda bought that" "I knew that was going to be huge" or "I knew that was going to be a great investment".  Those people aren't living, only existing.   They don't know risk and the value of time and have no clue about the 8th Wonder of the World, compounding returns, whether in interest or in the stock market.

With a background in economics and enough common sense derived from being in the markets for 30  years, I decided, on a hot summer day in Atlanta, Buckhead actually, to go down and stage a one-man protest.  Ben Bernanke was staying across the street at the Ritz Carleton and he had his government minions guarding him from seeing my poster.   What do you think of my poster-making skills?  

I called it.  Everything has come true.  Trillions upon trillions in debt, devaluation of the currency, inflation, lies, it just doesn't end with these crooks and shysters in government.

The dreaded "R" word!  Recession!    I will say it again, you read it here first, the recession will start the day after Trump takes office.   The liberal media loons will go crazy blaming the Trump presidency on policy causing a recession.

Today, the stock market goes on its merry way.  Again, another day of ATH's.

All.  Time.  Highs.    Buy RSP or SPY, preferably a combination of the two names, and just do nothing.    Just. Do. Nothing.  Just sit.

Here is a precursor of what is happening due to Bidenomics.  America's penchant for eating out is drying up.

"Darden Restaurants, a top full-service US restaurant group with 1,914 locations across 50 states under its eight brands—Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Cheddar's, Yard House, Ruth's Chris, The Capital Grille, Seasons 52, Bahama Breeze, and Eddie V's—warned on Thursday that lower-income customers are pulling back on spending. 

"Transactions from incomes below $75,000 were much lower than last year, and at every brand, transactions fell from incomes below $50,000. Similar to Q2, this shift was most pronounced in our Fine Dining segment," Chief Executive Officer Rick Cardenas told investors on an earnings call.

A pinched low- and middle-income consumer comes as no surprise given elevated credit-card balances and rising delinquencies, as well as depleted personal savings. Furthermore, negative real wage growth has been a disaster for the working poor in the era of failed Bidenomics."  

It still amazes me that most people involved in the stock market think that day trading or buying and selling is the way to make money.   The big money is doing the work in bad times and doing what I call, "winnowing" down the names I want to own.  As a cowboy, there is only so much room at the water trough.  You want to keep your best livestock well-fed and watered.  You want to own the best horses and give them plenty to drink.  If lucky, they will produce for you year after year.  I was fortunately very ready when the market began to roll back in November.  There was a silver lining to having had COVID back then and being in front of the computer day and night.  I didn't have the strength to be hunting, fishing, or trapping full-time last fall.  So, I was ready.  The big money is made by sitting.  I wish I knew 40 years ago what I know now.  A big shout-out to the million charts, scans, and screens I have been able to learn from via the William O'Neil database, now called MarketSurge, formerly called MarketSmith, and to the blue and green Daily Graphs books I had Federal Expressed overnight to review each and every weekend.  It was an expensive investment at the time, but now it's an investment I couldn't operate without.  Human emotions haven't changed in 10,000 years.  Fear and greed are in ultimate control of stock prices.  I am forever grateful.

There is no reason to be stupid in the markets and kill yourself and your trading equity.   Yes, I experienced some tremendous drawdowns which didn't put me out of business but the worst one came at the absolute worst possible time when my Mother passed away.   It was about 25 years ago this week.

It was bad news on top of bad news on top of bad news.

And, for some, the retirement crisis is already here. Just over half of Americans over the age of 65 are living on incomes of $30,000 or less a year, according to the Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey. The largest share — just under 23% — have incomes between $10,000 and $19,999.

Millions of elderly Americans are barely surviving at this point.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration has been flying hundreds of thousands of migrants that have no legal right to be here directly into the country…

It means that while record numbers of migrants were flowing over the southern border last year, the Biden White House was also directly transporting them into the country.

Use of a cell phone app has allowed for the near undetected arrival by air of 320,000 aliens with no legal rights to enter the United States.

It comes after a controversy over a 2022 transportation program in which the administration used taxpayers money to move migrants throughout the country on overnight flights.

You have got to be kidding me.

Let me give you another example.

Since 2020, the income needed “to comfortably afford a home in the US” has gone up by 80 percent…

According to Zillow, the income needed to comfortably afford a home in the US has leapt 80% since 2020, far exceeding what the BLS reports has been a 23% increase in median household income over the same period.

The real estate website found home buyers today need to make more than $106,000 a year, up $47,000 from 2020, a change driven largely by higher prices and borrowing costs.

“Housing costs have soared over the past four years as drastic hikes in home prices, mortgage rates and rent growth far outpaced wage gains,” said Orphe Divounguy, a senior economist at Zillow.

But instead of doing something about that, politicians in California actually want to provide interest-free home loans with no down payment required to newly arrived migrants…

Assembly Bill 1840 would change existing law to allow illegal immigrants to be eligible for the California Dream for All Fund, which provides interest-free loans for a down payment on a home for first-time buyers.

The bill was introduced by California Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula, a Democrat, who last month told GV Wire, a Fresno-based news outlet, that he “wanted to ensure that qualified first-time homebuyers include undocumented applicants.”

You have got to be kidding me.

On Thursday, we learned that the number of layoffs in the U.S. last month was the highest total that we have seen during February since 2009…

The pace of job cuts by U.S. employers accelerated in February, a sign the labor market is starting to deteriorate in the face of ongoing inflation and high interest rates.

That is according to a new report published Thursday by Challenger, Gray & Christmas, which found that companies planned 84,638 job cuts in February, a 3% increase from the previous month and a 9% jump from the same time last year.

It marked the highest layoff total for the month of February in data going back to 2009.

That is terrible news.

But instead of finding jobs for American workers, New York Governor Kathy Hochul wants to “prioritize” hiring newly arrived migrants for state jobs…

The aim is to expedite the process for illegal immigrants to secure state jobs once they have work permits.

Ahead of President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address this evening – what concerns do the political elites on Capitol Hill have that require security crews to erect a large steel fence around the immediate perimeter of the Capitol Complex?

In several posts on X, FOX News Senior Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergram said the steel, grated 12-foot fence around the Capitol Complex was erected on Wednesday night on the orders of the Secret Service.

Apparently our leaders in Washington have no problem with being protected by walls.

Unfortunately, our southern border has been left wide open and it is being estimated that approximately 10 million migrants have come pouring into this nation since Joe Biden entered the White House…

The number of illegal immigrants in the country has roughly doubled under President Biden. The United States had some 10.2 million illegal immigrants in 2020, and another 10 million have entered during Biden’s presidency. If the 20 million illegal immigrants were all in one state, it would be tied with New York for the fourth most populated state.

And here’s even worse news. If Biden wins a second term in office and there is no serious reform of U.S. immigration and asylum laws — both of which are very real possibilities — we can expect a continuing increase in the rate of immigrants crossing the border illegally.

You have got to be kidding me.

We already have tens of millions of people that are deeply suffering in this country.

To allow millions more to come marching in doesn’t make any sense at all.

We can’t even afford to take care of the people that we already have.  We are completely broke, and we have been adding another trillion dollars to the national debt about every 100 days.

We are literally committing national suicide,
